Power Supply (external)
The power supply is quite simply the supply of power for the device. The power supply, or power supply unit or PSU (the external kind) is what connects your device to the plug in the wall, it then converts the AC (alternating current) into a DC (direct current) and therefore supplies power to the device. But it doesn't just supply it with power, it regulates the amount of power it gets from the wall so that your device doesn't explode or set on fire instantly, and there are less to no spikes in the amount of power supplied at any given time. The more powerful your device, the more watts it's going to need, so you're going to need a power supply that can handle higher voltages if you intend to upgrade. Otherwise your computer will either not work, or will die in a matter of time from the power supply just not giving enough power, or maybe giving too much power, you've got to be careful with this.
Internal Power Supply
An internal supply refers to a battery, or batteries, either the kind that you charge or the kind that you discard when they run out of energy. There are benefits to having an internal power source and there are downsides, and it's the same for external power sources.
Pros - InternalWith an internal power supply you are not restricted to one place, you can move around, you can leave your house and your device will still have power; internal power sources make it possible to have portable devices.
|
Cons - InternalLike all living things your device will die at some point. (unless you charge the battery), and this could be at any point, there usually is a way to tell how much power your device is holding, but if you don't notice how low it is, or you have to be away from a power source for a while, you may be left with a device that has no power and so is (pseudo) useless. In order to give your device more power you have to either take out its batteries and replace them with fresh ones (which is unlikely because not many things use those kinds of batteries anymore, in fact I'm not sure if anything uses them), or you have to plug your device into the mains, making it just as non - portable as a device with an external power supply.
|
Pros - ExternalThe pros of external are: It always has power and doesn't focus on silly things like being portable so that it can focus on things like being a better machine, showing better images, being more powerful, holding more data, having more RAM, being faster, and being more useful overall.
|
Cons - ExternalThe cons of external are: it is not in the slightest bit portable (in terms of use, you can move it, you just cant use it while you are on the move)
